Sherman's Hermits?
Share
I am frequently asked...
"Where did you get the name Herman?"
In a pub in Manchester England rehearsed a group of friends.
They were searching for the right name for their new style of music.
They wanted a name that was totally unique, and did not conjure up visions of pop stars and teen heart throbs.
We dropped the 'bloody' and Herman and the Hermits were born.
The 6 people present were Alan Wrigley, Allan Chadwick, Steve Titterington, Karl Green, Keith Hopwood, and the owner of the pub we were rehearsing in.
Alan Wrigley and Steve Titterington remarked how when I wore the "Buddy Holly glasses", I looked more like the bloke from the Bullwinkle Show, than our rock and roll hero Buddy.
"What was his name?
Hubert, Horace?
Herman!!!
What name would go with Herman? (Actually the name we were searching for was Sherman, but it was a new TV series in England).
The owner of the pub we were rehearsing in said "Call yourself Herman and The Bloody Hermits". You all look like bloody Hermits.
We dropped the 'bloody' and Herman and the Hermits were born.

…and the rest is history!!!
So glad to see the stories again. Life would sure be different with no Herman’s Hermits back in the 60s! AND my dream to meet Peter/Herman would never have happened! That was a good one Barb!
Hermans hermits is a great name for the best band of the 60s with the great music and all the success you had fully deserved happy to see all these years later you are still sounding great and selling out concert s with the hermits you have now
