Sherman's Hermits?
Share
I am frequently asked...
"Where did you get the name Herman?"
In a pub in Manchester England rehearsed a group of friends.
They were searching for the right name for their new style of music.
They wanted a name that was totally unique, and did not conjure up visions of pop stars and teen heart throbs.
We dropped the 'bloody' and Herman and the Hermits were born.
The 6 people present were Alan Wrigley, Allan Chadwick, Steve Titterington, Karl Green, Keith Hopwood, and the owner of the pub we were rehearsing in.
Alan Wrigley and Steve Titterington remarked how when I wore the "Buddy Holly glasses", I looked more like the bloke from the Bullwinkle Show, than our rock and roll hero Buddy.
"What was his name?
Hubert, Horace?
Herman!!!
What name would go with Herman? (Actually the name we were searching for was Sherman, but it was a new TV series in England).
The owner of the pub we were rehearsing in said "Call yourself Herman and The Bloody Hermits". You all look like bloody Hermits.
We dropped the 'bloody' and Herman and the Hermits were born.

I always enjoy your stories, especially when you narrate them. Your history is fascinating……especially those of us who do remember Bullwinkle, Sherman, and Buddy Holly. Who knew that these characters would be reunited in Peter Noone and his Hermits!
Hey Noony ! I first saw you at Lostock Youth club way back in the last century
Do I really remember you wearing a gold P ( (lame’) suit ?
We also rode the 11x/23 then the53 bus to St Bedes with other scholarship kidsfrom the wrong ? side of the tracks
Loved your concert in Stafford Tx & now we live in Scottsdale so we hope to see you this Friday
Cheers

Herman’s Hermits is much less confusing to write than the misspellings I’ve seen for Peter Noon, Peter Noonan, etc. You certainly don’t look like a Sherman.
Love all of your stories!
You don’t look at all like bloody Hermits…. or Sherman either, for that matter! I like it though, Herman’s Hermits is a catchy name with catchy tunes! I’m just trying to figure out the meaning of the shark.
