YOU'VE all got Beatlemania. . . and now you can also catch HERMANIA, a la TEEN LIFE!
HERMAN'S HERMITS are the cutest of the newest. Okay, we know you know that, but we kinda like saying it anyway! They got their kooky name - and this we bet you don't know - from a cartoon character named Sherman on the TV Bullwinkle Show. Amused at the resemblance of the character and PETER NOONE, and mistaking the name Sherman for Herman, the group decided to christen Peter with the Herman handle. Why hermits? What else could possibly go with Herman?
Herman, 18 years old, was born in Manchester on November 5, 1947. He's a former child actor in the Shirley Temple league, who made movies and was featured on the stage. He joined the group when, one night while visiting a local teen club a group called The Heartbeats were short a singer and Herman filled in . . . and stayed.
The other Hermits are: KARL GREEN who plays bass guitar and is 18; DEREK LECKENBY, lead and rhythm guitar who is 22 and is called "Lek;" BARRY WHITWAM, 19 year-old drummer; and KEITH HOPWOOD, also a lead and rhythm guitarist, 18 years old.
