Herman's Hidden Life! Delve into Herman's past and find out about never-revealed memories, playful antics, scared moments, and more!

NO ONE needs to be told the basic facts of Herman's life anymore! Every loyal fan has a pretty good idea of the big things that happened to him in the past as he grew up. But there are special moments, secret times, sort-of hidden facts about his life that aren't so well-known. These are the memories and thoughts he only shared with a few. . .or maybe only with himself! Here Herman tells us. . .and YOU. . .a little about them!
. . .I remember very vaguely the time when I was three and I made my unofficial debut in the acting-singing world! I was on vacation with my parents in Llandudno, North Wales, when I entered a talent contest in Happy Valley Pleasure Park. Thinking back now, I can't keep from blushing, but then, I was proud and bursting at the seams! I walked up on the stage, and sang at the top of my lungs:
     Twinkety, winkie, winkie, winkie
     Tinkety, winkie, wink
The audience went wild - how they cheered and cheered! They must have thought I was pretty cute! Show business sure seemed easy to me then!
. . .When I was beginning my second term at St. Bede's, I studied music under a man named Master Frost. Everyone in the class knew that he wore a wig, and the cleverest guys were the ones who could manage to catch a glimpse of the toupee when it moved. I must have been the brattiest of all, for I organized groups to go up and talk to Mr. Frost so that others could sneak behind and stare. I guess that just shows that I was a normal pesky kid at times, but I can admit now that I learned a lot from that music master!
. . .I remember the hilarious, but embarrassing evening my debut disc, "I'm Into Something Good," hit number one in the charts. I was staggering around half out of my mind in excitement and shock. . .I couldn't believe I'd make it. To top it off, I'd been drinking glasses full of "bubbly" until I nearly passed out from drunkeness. Everyone around me was roaring with laughter every time I complained of my tippy state. They later told me that Granada T.V. (the T.V. station) had only been "boozing-me-up" on colored water - of all things!!
. . .It scares me just a little that I have so much money to spend freely. After awhile, it's very hard to have any proportion at all, and sometimes I wind up tipping waiters and taxi-drivers a ridiculous sum. I don't mind being generous though!
. . .The first time I came to the States, I was really eager to see all that was around me. Everywhere I went, I was smothered with followers and screaming fans. I remember how difficult it was to leave the hotel through the lobby. But I had to get out of the hotel to see things! So finally I gave up and slid down the laundry chute into the kitchen, and out the back entrance. I felt bad running out like that, but WOW, I just had too many things to do!
. . .I'm sure I don't need to tell you how much I really love being with the guys and travelling to meet all my fans in concert. But just sometimes, I get this small, ever-so-slight twitch to be back with my family again, especially Mum's home-made cooking! I've been all over, and nothing has topped that yet!
