The Hermits have a big suprise for you! Your favorite guys have consented to let all the world join them in a
typical day. What's more, each Hermit has told us some very personal tid-bits about his typical day. If you read
them carefully, ... you could almost say you lived right along with them!
KARL GREEN-Karl has the "peculiar" habit of setting his alarm clock for very, very late-like 4:00 P.M. Why?
Because whenever he gets up. it's bound to be before that pesty bell starts ringing!
"This way," he told us, "I always feel like an early bird!"
Before he starts any serious work for the day, Karl loves to talk to children. Hunting for them requires a quick stroll
around the block to see which of his favorites might possibly be out. This is the part of his "schedule" he looks forward
to the most, 'cause he finds "little kids" really cute.
"Besides," he told us, "They put me in a good mood all day."
The busy hub-bub with the group passes quickly, as most things do when you're enjoying them. And soon Karl thinks of what he'll be doing with his evening. If he's not out on a date or tied up with personal appearances or other engagements, he loves to "play at" being a magician. He gets a big thrill out of the "eerie" and the mysterious, too. Once he dressed up as a "headless horseman" and scared the entire Hermit crew. Somehow he likes the night a whole lot better than the day. So watch out on some lonely evening-for that may be the time that Karl has decided to "fool around!" Anyone for a "headless Hermit?" DEREK (LEK) LECKENBY-Lek is the real early-riser in the group. So often he's the only one to benefit from a hearty breakfast. And he sure does take advantage of it! Waffles and ice cream are his specialty, but he doesn't forget his orange juice or vitamins. To keep himself company while eating, he reads... especially biographies and autobiographies... and completely shuts out all sound for However long it takes him to eat. He told us, "There have been times when breakfast ran right into lunch. So I have to start all over again!" In his spare afternoon-time, Lek loves to wander in and out of record shops. He knows so much about both new and old albums that more than one person has called him a "walking record encyclopedia." "Actually," Lek confided to us, "I'm not interested in disc-shopping merely for the information that I pick up. I'm more interested in the pleasure of keeping close to the music world." An evening with Lek most definitely would mean fun. He's fascinated with colors and spends a lot of his time just looking around at people wearing "unusual" colors and clothes. So if you're a Lek fan, start watching people. You may find him watching you! BARRY WHITWAM-Barry loves getting up at the "crack of dawn." long before the others, to watch the sun rise and Manchester wake up. When he has access to a boat. he enjoys taking 6:00 rides, and diving off the side into cold, cold water."Kinda helps you wake up," he told us. |
After such vim and vigor. a cup of hot chocolate. no matter what season is always in order. During the winter. when swimming isn't possible, he loves to walk barefoot in the snow and to greet the new day with a ride in his car. Living a day with Barry means a lot of running around. Undoubtedly. there will be millions of errands and chores. Sometimes his drums need fixing. and other times he's driving to buy the other guys lunch during rehearsals:'Tinkering around"seems to be his hobby. Dinner itself is a very elaborate affair. He loves to cook. or rather to eat (and cooking is often necessary if you want to eat). So he plans a gourmet menu of the finest the city has to offer. Though he'd rather eat in his own home. he doesn't mind restaurants. as long as the food is good. But good eatin' usually lasts long into the night. and then it's already time to "hit the sack." Pleasant dreams. Barry! KEITH HOPWOOD-Unlike Barry. Keith enjoys his sleep. and is willing to miss breakfast to catch a few extra hours. But once he's up. his mind is ticking away as he thinks of pranks he can play on the others. No wonder the rest of the Hermits try to get to practice before him. When rehearsals or other group commitments are over. Keith can usually be found in wax museums or antique shops. He loves very old things. and has made himself quite a huge collection. Ancient Egypt and Greece are his favorites. but objects made by the American Indians rate pretty high as well. In the evenings. Barry loves to wander into discotheques and settle down for a night of dancing and talking. This way. too. he can keep up with the latest drum beats and the newest dancing steps. "I like being out among people. he confessed. "because after playing all day. I feel sort of cooped up and away from the world." Granted. he comes back to his house exhausted. but he wouldn't want it any other way! HERMAN (PETER NOONE)-As leader of the Hermits. it's understandable that Herman really looks forward to each day. He told us. I get a big boost out of working on a song. watching it 'come alive' and get better and better the more we work on it!" >To live along with Herm is to share his excitement in music.< When Herm wants to relax. he often enjoys a good game of charades. At one time. he had great thoughts of becoming an actor. Although he's changed his mind. he still gets a lot of pleasure out of "playing -out" an idea. Rumor has it that he's very good. too. So all Herman-lovers. sharpen up on your acting! When it comes to dinner. Herman's all for camp-fires. Actually. he suffers through an entire "home-cooked" meal just so he can have hot coals for marshmallow-roasting. He's an expert in turning them out a deep. golden brown. In the evenings. when he's not baby-sitting for his little sisters (he adores them). he's usually out having fun on a date. One thing about Herman... there's always a smile on his face! Whether he's bowling or going to the movies. it means one thing and one thing only-that he's enjoying life and making sure each day brings a few new laughs!
