Herman

"It's not a laughing matter," said Herm seriously. "Especially when these things plague me so much that I can't fall asleep!"

5 Things That Haunt Herman
There are "skeletons in his closet" and "ghosts" in his past! And Herm tells you why!

IF you were a close friend of Herm's, you'd know that he has a memory "like an elephant"! Because when anything-no matter how small-happens to Herm, it leaves a "lasting impression" on his mind. But five things left a greater impression than ususal. In fact, they actually haunt him to this very day! Here they are...
  1. . One of the things that haunts Herm goes back to when he was very, very little.
"This may sound strange," Herm told us, reminiscing. "But I feel 'haunted' whenever I see a caterpillar. It reminds me of how I used to play in the tall garden-grass in back of our house. I always ended a day of adventure in that garden with a caterpillar or two on my overalls!" The way Herm looks at it, being haunted by caterpillars is both nice and unpleasant for him at the same time. You see, while it brings back very happy memories it makes Herm feel sad, too-as he grows further and further away from those childhood days in the garden he loved so much.
  2. Next on the list of things that haunt Herm is the memory of a little boy-himself-having fun on a swing! As Herm tells it, his father built a swing for him in the doorway between the dining room and hallway of their old house. And this kept little Herm occupied on rainy days when he would sit and swing for hours at a time, just planning all the things he'd do when he grew up! "It's funny," said Herm, "but the memory of those rainy days at home makes me feel sort-of sad."
  3. The next thing that haunts Herm is the image of an old school gate! It brings back kind-of scary memories to Herm-memories of the very first day he went to school, when he was five years old. "Of course I didn't know any of the other children who went to the school," Herm

told us. So when I saw my mother outside the gate, on her way home after dropping me off, I burst into tears. And I don't think I stopped crying for the rest of the day!" So, just show Herm a school gate, and he runs-the other way! All it reminds him of is that day when the other side of a gate looked like it was three worlds away!
  1. "Next, one of my very unfavorite memories," continued Herm, "goes back to my tree climbing days! You see, I used to love climbing the pear trees near our house, but you wouldn't catch me at it now if you offered me one million pounds!" And Herm has good reason to feel this way! Because once, when he was about twelve years old, he fell smack out of one of those pear trees! "Luckily, there were no bones broken," recalled Herm. "But I had myself quite a scare! So not only do I steer clear of tree climbing, but I'm not too keen about snacking on pears, either!"
  2. The fifth thing that haunts Herm is another school-day memory-a bad memory of morning assembly periods! As Herm told it, when he had a role in a British T.V. series, he has to admit he got very wrapped up" in the excitement of being a kind-of star. And he began to be a bit "careless" about school! "My grades really dropped down low for awhile," said Herm, looking ashamed. "And my name was called out regularly at morning assembly for me to report to the Headmaster for a 'talking-to'! So, to me, a school assembly spells nothing but t-r-o-u-b-l-e-and plenty of it!" Herm told us that between the embarrassment he went through every morning and the bad memories it's left him with, he learned a lesson he'll never forget! Yet, despite all the things that haunt him, we think Herm turned out pretty okay! And we have a feeling that old Headmaster of his would think so too!
