Herman's Hermits

Finally, The Fun rock, the kind you don't have to work at, epitomized by the misnamed Herman's Hermits. Dan Neaverth of WKBW, Buffalo, New York, notes that Peter Noone has an uncanny feel for the fresh, the fanciful, the funny and the fetching. In THERE'S A KIND OF HUSH ALL OVER THE WORLD (MGM), he is simply delightful, both boyish and buoyant. The title song is particularly infectious - in fact, they all are - in a spritely way that makes you thank yourself for listening. "Dandy" dares you not to sing along. It's as bright as a halfpenny. Even "No Milk Today," with it's sad story, is catchy in its phrasing. Peter's gift may be more one of personality than vocal adeptness. He sparkles and perks and packs energy, ginger and sunshine into every groove ... and it oozes out all over. When you want to be entertained, can you ask for more?
