![]() Herman and his Hermits spend most of each year travelling. And most of the travelling is away from home in England. The boys have all gotten used to foreign cooking, but if you ask them for the foods they are most fond of, the answer will be a great British favorite - Toad-In-The-Hole. Peter gave his mother's recipe for this English delicacy. (Serves 6) 1 pound little link sausages 1 package popover mix or 1 cup flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 cup milk 2 eggs Fry the sausages for ten minutes, turning them often and pricking them with a fork to let the fat run out. In the meantime, sift the flour and salt into a bowl; stir in the milk. Beat the eggs and then pour them into the batter; beat the batter. Let it stand for half an hour. Take an eight-or nine-inch pie plate or square baking dish about the same size; put the sausages in, with some of the fat from the frying pan. Pour the batter over the sausages, then reduce the heat to 350o and bake 10 to 15 minutes more, until the batter is brown and puffy. It will collapse a little when you serve it, but don't worry - it's a taste treat! ![]() |
