WHAT'S No. 1 then? The STONES and "Satisfaction"? I won't say anything about that because I know how sensitive they are!
SONNY AND CHER have a good thing going for them. A great image and a great record. The WALKERS have got a fabulous disc, too, and they're very talented. I believe they said they won't go to the States if they have a hit there. I don't agree with that. I'd go practically anywhere to promote a disc.

DYLAN is fantastic. A good pop record. I like some of his other discs and he writes good stuff. What can you say about the BEATLES which hasn't been said before? Every record they do is better than the one before.
My opinion of the "Black Forest" thing is - ugh! As for "Zorba's Dance," I like a version by the Greek bird NANA MOUSKOURI much better. She did it on a TV show we were in when we were in America. I don't know much about the BYRDS because we were in the States when they came over, but I like their record.
The HOLLIES are great! If they're not No. 1 group by the end of the year, I'll beat 'em all up! I thought CHER's number was a track off a MARIANNE LP when I first heard it, and I still do. SONNY's doing well solo, too, I see. Fab, gas.

underestimated

"Pussycat" is a great number, TOM's best record so far. He's very talented, and we had a ball when we met him in the States.
"Universal Soldier" is very good, oh, very good. I don't want to see too much God and Pied Piper stuff in the charts, though. You know, people singing about what everybody should do and so on. It's not pop music really. Glad to see KEN DODD in the parade. He lives

'I hope Frank Ifield doesn't
get any higher'

just around the corner from me in Knotty Ash.
JONATHAN KING's song is lovely. Some people say he's a one-hit artist. Don't worry, whack, they said that about me! And people underestimate the HONEYCOMBS. Their records sell a bomb in several parts of the world. Most disc jockeys say something a bit nasty about "Il Silenzio," but it's still a hit. Me? I push another button when it comes on.
HERMAN'S HERMITS are absolutely great, talented and very modest! Pure rhythm and blues with rock and soul on the side.
I'm glad SMALL FACES are in because it's a change for a record like that to be a hit. I haven't heard the McCOYS, but I like BILLY FURY. He bought me a drink recently.
I don't like FRANK IFIELD's style, I haven't heard his record, and I hope it doesn't get any higher. CLIFF RICHARD'S never entered my life either, and I think this number is a non-descript. JOAN BAEZ is trying to copy me!
