The day Herman almost became a Walt Disney star
'My Face is My Fortune' says Top 10 Star

Young popster Herman who leads a bunch of lads he calls the Hermits, nearly became an international film star three years ago - if he'd had his way.
Herman, who is invading the charts with the great Goffin-King song, "I'm Into Something Good" told Combo: "I was at school at the time. Just on my 14th birthday it would have been.
"I don't really know how it came about - you could say my face was my fortune - but I got an offer from Walt Disney to star in a feature film called 'Horse Without A Head'. Of course I was all for it.
"I tried everything I knew to persuade my mum and dad to let me do the picture.
"But, of course, it meant giving up everything. I would have had to go on location in France and that meant leaving school and giving up the hard work I'd put in.

· TEACHERS

The teachers were very good during the test periods he had, said Herman. They let him take weeks off for screen tests.
"But my parents finally won" he went on. "They talked me out of it and the chance had gone. They made the film with somebody else and for some time after I was dead sorry about not being able to act in the film.
"Anyway I left school six months later. Unfortunately, I wasn't worth staying on. I didn't pass any exams.
"But looking back on it all now, I'm glad that I didn't take the offer. I know I'm too old now for Walt Disney but anyway, I've got the group now," said Herman.

·OFFER

When this big film offer came into Herman's life he was just 14 years old. Another offer was hovering in the background for this baby-faced beatster around the same time. To join a group.
Herman, feeling a little blue at his missed opportunity, joined the Manchester based group and toured the local circuit.
But a little glory did come Herman's way soon after. His face has been dubbed a "natural" for television and films, and he got another chance when he appeared in television's "Coronation Street" and "Knight Errant".
But rapidly the group's fame began to spread and suddenly "HERMANIA" was born.
The boys were spotted in Manchester by ace hit-maker Mickie Most and he produced a disc for them. After the recording session, Mickie said: "I like this group because they look good and sound good. After the Animals and the Nashville Teens I'm hoping that this will be my hat-trick".

·HAT-TRICK

Things are getting very near to that hat-trick for Mickie. Against stiff opposition, Herman has come out on top - and is still climbing.
At 16, Herman has a lot of experience behind him. At one time he took classical singing lessons at the Manchester School of Music and has also taken drama lessons.
Would Herman still like to be in films?
"Yes, I would. I'd like to do straight acting and a couple of beat films. Anything that comes in fact," said Herman.
