HERMAN and his gorgeous French wife Mireille are a very happy couple. At the moment they have a super home in plush Belgravia and are really enjoying life. "We got the flat originally," Herman told me, "because the person who owns it is a friend of ours and she decided to go abroad for a year. Trouble is that the year will shortly be up so we'll have to move out. Pity that, because we're really enjoying living here. It's not costing us very much a week either. "It's great living in the centre of town because it's so easy to get about anywhere but I think the next place we move to will have to be a bit nearer to London Airport. Reason is 'cause I have to go away so much and the nearer to the airport I am the less travelling I'll have to do. "About a couple of years ago I used to have to go abroad with the Hermits quite a lot but now we don't go so often. We're still in demand but I don't think it's very fair to Mireille if I go off every few days to work. After all, I don't have to anymore. "The one thing I think is very bad is when pop stars get married and then expect their wives to fall in with their routine. It should surely be the other way round and the pop star should plan his day to suit his wife," he said indignantly. Although Herman and Mireille like socialising, they haven't yet held a party in their flat. "Mainly because the neighbours around here are all so quiet it wouldn't be fair if we held a party and broke the peace. "When we first moved in we thought we'd really be out of it because we were told that all the neighbours are Lords and Ladies. After living here for a few months we've found them to be great people. They don't disturb us and we don't bother them. It's quite a super arrangement!" He smiled. As Herman doesn't work on gigs very often, Mireille makes sure he does some housework. With a soft French accent she took over the conversation from Herman. "It's quite difficult for me around the house because although Herman doesn't work abroad very much, we still do go away, so it's impossible to have a woman to do the flat every day. Instead Herman helps me do everything. We even do shopping together," she said. She told us to our surprise that before Herman and she met, she'd never even heard of him. "He was introduced as Herman and I wondered who he was. He wasn't angry or upset when he realised I didn't know who he was and I think he was quite relieved about it. It must have been a pleasant change for him to meet someone who hadn't ever heard of him!" THE RIGHT TIME Herman and Mireille first met in the autumn of last year and a few months |
